Specimen catalogado da cédula de 50.000 Réis, Brazil com “Z”, Estampa 16ª emitida em 1924 e impressa pelo ABNCo para o Tesouro Nacional, República dos Estados Unidos do Brazil, cujo homenageado é o Ex-Presidente Arthur da Silva Bernardes.

Artur da Silva Bernardes (nasceu em Viçosa em 08 de agosto 08 de 1875e faleceu no Rio de Janeiro em 23 de março de 1955) foi um advogado e político brasileiro, presidente do Brasil entre 15 de novembro de 1922 e 15 de novembro de 1926.

Após formar-se na Faculdade Livre de Direito, iniciou sua carreira política como vereador e presidente da Câmara Municipal de Viçosa em 1906. Foi deputado federal (de 1909 a 1910) e Secretário de Finanças de Minas Gerais em 1910. Eleito para um novo mandato de deputado federal (1915 a 1917), foi presidente do estado de Minas Gerais entre 1918 e 1922.

O descontentamento com sua vitória e com o governo de seu antecessor, Epitácio Pessoa, foram algumas das causas do chamado Levante do Forte de Copacabana, primeira ação do movimento tenentista.

Bernardes teve que fazer frente à coluna Prestes, movimento tenentista que percorreu o país pregando mudanças políticas e sociais e que jamais foi derrotado pelo governo.

Curiosidade:
O homem forte do Catete - Governando em período de grande instabilidade política, Arthur Bernardes conduziu o país sob estado de sítio.

Ele era "alto, esguio, de nariz aquilino, testa larga". Seus "olhos castanhos, pequenos e irrequie¬tos lhe boiavam no rosto com¬prido", segundo a descrição de um contemporâneo.

Mineiro, percorreu firme e paciente o ca¬minho para a Presidência da Re¬pública. Mas chegou em mo-mento político extremamente agitado.

Era a década de 1920, tempo do movimento tenentista, da Revolução Libertadora no Rio Grande do Sul (1923) e da Revolução Paulista de 1924. E de medidas drásticas. Não foi à toa que o país permaneceu em esta¬do de sítio - suspensão de garan¬tias constitucionais em nome da ordem pública - durante quase todo o mandato presidencial (1922-1926).

Arthur da Silva Bernardes (Viçosa, Minas Gerais - August 8, 1875 - Rio de Janeiro - March 23, 1955), was a Brazilian politician in the early 20th century, he was the 12th President of Brazil.

He was elected Governor of Minas Gerais in 1918. In 1922, He was elected President of Brazil and served until 1926.
Facing a military rebellion, Bernardes ruled under a state of siege during most of the course of his term.

About Specimen and Proof Banknotes.
